2020 Commitment to Excellence Award Recipient

Tyler Hursey received his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University, with a major in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science. He also earned a Master’s degree from MSU in Curriculum and Teaching.

 

Currently, Tyler is in his 25th year of teaching mathematics at Okemos High School. He has also coached girls and boys golf, and girls and boys basketball at OHS.

 

His family includes: wife, Christie, who is a teacher; children, Andrew, a sophomore at OHS and Rachel, an eighth grader at Chippewa; parents, Thomas (former teacher), and Tina (former teacher); and brother Todd (teacher). As you can see, teaching runs in the family for Tyler!!

 

In his free time, he enjoys: golfing, biking, reading, watching sports, travelling, and spending time with friends and family.

 

About his time in Okemos, Tyler says, “I would like to thank my fellow teachers, support staff, administrators, students, athletes, and parents for making Okemos a great place to teach. The commitment shown to help students learn, improve and grow is truly something special that we have in our community. I continue to learn so much from those who I interact with on a day-to-day basis.”
