Kris Schoen

2015 Commitment to Excellence Award Recipient

Kris Schoen is in her 24th year of teaching in the Okemos School District. She began her career in the fall of 1992 at Wardcliff Elementary where she had just completed her student teaching. She had the opportunity to teach fifth grade at Wardcliff, Hiawatha and at Cornell. Kris share-taught at Hiawatha first with Molly Francis and then with Marian Murembya. She is in her 6th year of teaching Kindergarten at Cornell where she enjoys watching the students blossom as learners.

 

Kris received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Michigan State University with a major in language arts and a minor in social studies. She also holds a Master of Arts degree for teachers in general science from MSU.

 

Kris and her husband Steve live in Okemos with their three daughters who attend Okemos Public Schools. In her free time she enjoys gardening, traveling up north and attending her daughters’ sporting events.
