Amy Petersburg

2015 Commitment to Excellence Award Recipient

Amy Petersburg was born and raised in Ohio. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and then went on to teach her first five years in two suburban Cincinnati school districts before getting married and moving to mid-Michigan. Since moving, she has spent the past 14 years teaching for Okemos, first at Edgewood and then at Cornell. During her 19 years of teaching, Amy has taught Begindergarten, Kindergarten, first and second grades. Amy has served on many building and district committees. She considers herself very blessed to work in a building with such compassionate, collaborative colleagues whom she calls friends.

 

In 2005, Amy earned her master’s degree from Michigan State University in Literacy and Language Instruction. Since then, she has continued to take many additional classes to extend her learning and understanding of children and their growth and development.

 

Amy and her husband Chris live in Williamston and are the proud and busy parents of 11 year old Alex and 7 year old Kate. In their free time, Amy’s family enjoys spending time up north with friends and extended family.
