
Catherine Ash
(former Superintendent of Okemos Public Schools) joined Okemos Public Schools in August of 1996 and in 2010 was appointed as the Superintendent of Okemos Public Schools. She grew up in Corunna influenced by her parents who were also dedicated and committed educators. Cathy received her Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University, graduating with a major in mathematics and a minor in biology. She continued her education at Michigan State University, earning her Master of Arts degree in K-12 Administration and her doctoral degree in Education Administration with a cognate in Labor and Industrial Relations. Cathy began her teaching career in 1984 at Eaton Rapids High School, where she taught math and biology for seven years. Her first administrative position was as an assistant principal at Hastings High School from 1992 to 1994 and then DeWitt High School from1994 - 1996. In 1996, Cathy was named Director of Human Resources in Okemos. After serving in that position for seven years, she assumed additional responsibilities in finance and became the Deputy Superintendent. Cathy is an active member of various professional organizations including, the Michigan School Business Officials, Michigan Association of School Administrators and Michigan Association of School Personnel Administrators. She has also been actively involved and provided leadership for specific district committees focusing on strategic planning, long range planning, technology and transportation bond, building and site sinking fund, minority recruiting and Montessori programming. Cathy is a 2010 OEF Commitment to Excellence award recipien. She was an OEF Board member from 2010 until her retirement from Okemos Public Schools in June 2017.
