2018 Commitment to Excellence Award Recipient

Amanda is a 5th and 6th grade teacher in the Montessori program at Kinawa. She began her teaching career thirteen years ago at Kinawa as a 6th grade social studies teacher, after graduating from MSU. Amanda completed her Montessori training at the Michigan Montessori Teacher Training Center in Rochester, MI in 2008, before moving to Edgewood where she taught in a 4th and 5th grade classroom. She has since moved to the 5th-6th grade Montessori program where she teaches today. Amanda feels lucky to spend her days with curious little learners, and her dynamic teaching partner (and co-award recipient), Leslie Wertz.

Amanda became interested in the Montessori philosophy during college and truly believes in Dr. Montessori’s sentiment that “Peace is what every human being is craving for, and it can be brought about by humanity through the child.” When she is not at school, Amanda enjoys camping, reading, and spending time with her husband and three children.
