Commitment to Excellence Recognition Award Nominees
The Okemos Education Foundation (OEF) today announced six people will receive the 2005 Commitment to Excellence Recognition Awards presented to outstanding faculty members or administrators. Those to be honored at an upcoming awards ceremony in November are:
Kelly Carrier, Okemos High School science teacher
Jennifer Eddy, Cornell Elementary School third grade teacher
Bob Greenhoe, Central Elementary School principal
Donna Kregelka, Kinawa Middle School social studies teacher
Maureen McKelvey, Hiawatha Elementary School kindergarten teacher
Ivy Schmidt, Edgewood Public Montessori 1st - 3rd grade teacher
Award winners are selected for their outstanding ability to inspire and motivate students, demonstrate innovative and creative teaching, promote the welfare of students, and function as role models in the community. Community members and schools submitted nominations.
"Teachers and administrators are constantly encouraging students to do and be their best," said Kathy Schalter, OEF chairperson. "This program allows the Foundation to say thank you in a special way."
Winners will receive a commemorative plaque and a $1,000 cash grant.
In addition to the Commitment to Excellent Recognition awards, two people will receive Special Recognition awards, Gail Garber, Enrichment Coordinator, Okemos Community Education; and Officer Gaylord Mankowski, Meridian Township Police Department. Molly Wingrove will receive the Alumni award.
Award winners will be honored during the annual Commitment to Excellence Recognition Banquet, Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Kellogg Center. Tickets are available at all schools: $30 for adults and $12 for children under 12.
OEF was founded in 1984. It is a non-profit organization whose primary goal is to raise funds to supplement the schools' normal budgets. In addition to the annual awards, it provides grants and is building an endowment.
