"OKEMOS CARES" CAMPAIGN EXTENDED

Organizers of the Okemos schools' fundraising initiative "Okemos Cares" have announced it has been extended until July 1st.

"We want to be certain that all prospective donors are aware of the initiative and, more importantly, have adequate time to act," said Mick Baughman, "Okemos Cares" committee chairman.

At about the mid-point of the 60-day campaign, Baughman said the group has received over $60,000 in contributions, money that will be used to save Okemos classes, teachers and other programs currently threatened by the district's multi-million dollar deficit for 2004/2005.

"Again this year, we're extremely encouraged by the community's financial response to this challenging reality," Baughman said. "Our campaign is aptly named."

A week-long event just concluded at Schuler Books' Okemos location netting about $2,500 for the cause. Two nights of fundraising were also scheduled at Culver's Restaurant on Times Square Drive.

Interested persons can learn more at the "Okemos Cares" link on the Okemos Schools' Web site, http://okemos.k12.mi.us or by dialing 349-9460.

"Okemos Cares" is a two-year project of the Okemos Education Foundation.
