Grants

The purpose of the Okemos Education Foundation (OEF) is to secure funds needed to enrich educational opportunities and encourage innovative educational endeavors that are beyond the district's normal budgetary and operational functions. The OEF distributes these funds in a variety of ways, including the awarding of grants to teachers for the purpose of providing expanded educational opportunities for their students.

Guidelines for Submitting Grant Proposals

The review periods for the 2010-2011 school year are listed below. In order to be considered during one of these review periods, an application must be received by no later than:

October 1, 2010
February 4, 2011
April 21, 2011

(Downloadable application forms are below.)

Make sure that the grant proposal is clear and complete. Keep in mind that OEF has the following priorities when assessing grants:

Highest priority goes to proposals that benefit the largest number of students and to students throughout the district.

Priority will also be given to grant proposals that provide resources that will remain in the district for long periods of time.

Grants should provide something extra that enhances the curriculum in a creative, beneficial way.

The OEF requires that grant requests be closely aligned to the school curriculum and prefers to award money for programs that will impact multiple classes or multiple schools. Additionally we do not want to be a permanent funding source for repeated events. The maximum grant award will be $1,000.00. Examples of items which typically are not funded are: t-shirts, transportation, professional development for teachers, salaries, and normal school supplies. Any questions regarding the grant application process should be directed to grants@oefsite.org.

Each grant recipient will be required to complete the project within twelve months from the date the grant is approved. Each grant recipient will be asked to provide the OEF with comments and feedback from the use of the grant, and photographs, if possible. Additionally, any publication of the activity must reference that it was made possible through an OEF grant. Grant applicants may apply for an extension of the project completion deadline for a period up to twelve additional months upon showing of good cause.
