Ellen Camann, 2006 Special Recognition Award Recipient

Ellen CamannEllen Camann began teaching in the Okemos Public Schools in 1996 and has worked with over 400 At-Risk and Title I students in the TASK program with Ree Huber at Chippewa Middle School.

When her children attended Central Elementary School, Ellen began helping in the Okemos Public Schools as a parent volunteer, PTO President, and Parent Council member. She was a long-time member and president of the Seahawks Swim Club, and a parent volunteer with the OHS Swim Team and Water Polo Team for 12 years. She was also a member of the TOST (Taking Okemos Schools into Tomorrow) committee.

Ellen graduated from Alma College with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and received a Master's degree in Library Science from Wayne State University. She worked in the medical school library for four years. She is married to Dr. Keith Camann and they have three children, Laura, Peter, and Abby, all graduates of Okemos High School.
