Janice Buhs, 2008 "Special Recognition" Award Recipient

Janet BuhsJanice Buhs started working for Okemos Public Schools in 1990. She has worked as the administrative assistant for Special Education for the last 16 years. Her role in special education is a diverse position as she works with forty seven special education staff members and over five hundred students and their families throughout the district. Janice feels that the special education staff and her placement at Chippewa Middle School are two of the best perks of her job.

Janice received her B.S. in English Education from Southern Illinois University and taught high school English in Ohio many years ago. Her two children, Stacy and Todd, went through Okemos Public Schools from kindergarten though graduation at OHS in 1994 and 2000, respectively. When her children were in school, she was active as a volunteer. Over the years she was a Picture Person at Central, member of the OAKS board, president of the Chippewa Parent Group, president of the Okemos Athletic Boosters at OHS, and a docent at the Kresge Art Museum. Presently, her volunteering jobs have taken a back seat to her new, best position as "Gramma" to Isabela and Alex, and baby-t0-be in February.

Our Mission:  "Recognizing Excellence and Promoting Innovation in Okemos Public Schools."
