Deborah Baughman

(Awards Committee Chair) and her husband, Mick, moved to Okemos in 1985. They have two OPS graduates, Trey (OHS Class of ’07) a 2011 graduate of Kalamazoo College, and Connor (OHS Class of ’09) who attends DePaul University in Chicago, and will graduate in March, 2013. Deb earned her Bachelor degree and Master degree from Michigan State University. She has worked for the last 25+ years at Shiawassee Regional Educational Service District in several of the districts in the county as a school social worker. She thoroughly enjoys her current position and the challenge of working with alternative education students at Lincoln High School in Owosso. Deb served as the parent representative to Edgewood’s school improvement team from 1994-2001. She served as Kinawa’s Parent Group Vice President; and at OHS, she served as Co-President of the Okemos Athletic Boosters and on the board of the Drama Boosters. Deb was elected to the Okemos Board of Education in 1999 and achieved Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) certification. Deb served the board as Parliamentarian, Vice President, and President before “retiring” from the school board in 2006. Deb was appointed to fill a vacated seat on the Okemos Board of Education from June to December, 2009 and again from July to December, 2010. In November, 2010, Deb was elected to continue serving on the board for a term that expires in December, 2012. Deb has continuously served on the OEF Board since her appointment as a school board representative in 2000.
